Chicago White Sox on Wrong Side of Random Stat That Hasn't Happened in 35 Years
The Chicago White Sox freefall in 2023 continued on Monday as they suffered a 12-1 loss at the hands of the Kansas City Royals.
The loss puts the White Sox at 53-85 on the year. They currently own the fourth-worst record in all of baseball. It was a terrible day all around for Chicago, who mustered just three hits and no walks, in addition to the one run.
Per Jay Cuda of Stathead on social media:
Prior to today, the last time a team gave up 12+ runs to the Royals, scored 1 or fewer runs and had no walks was 35 years ago
Yes, that's random, but it's just another instance of how far this White Sox team has fallen.
The team came into the year with legitimate playoff aspirations and is going to end up potentially with 100 losses. They gutted the roster at the trade deadline and appear headed for another multi-year rebuild.
In addition, the team could trade Dylan Cease and Tim Anderson over the offseason, which would further signify just how far away from contending the team actually is.
The White Sox and Royals will play each other again on Tuesday night at Kauffman Stadium.
First pitch is set for 7:40 p.m. ET as right-hander Dylan Cease (CWS) squares off with righty Brady Singer (KC).
Cease is 6-7 with a 4.91 ERA, a major regression from his second-place Cy Young finish in 2022. Singer is 8-10 with a 5.15 ERA, also a regression from his 2022 season, when he went 10-5 with a 3.23.
