Cincinnati Reds' Joey Votto Reaches Career Milestone By Playing 2,000 Career Games
At the time of this posting, the Cincinnati Reds and San Diego Padres are tied 0-0 in the bottom of the fifth inning.
While the score is obviously important, it's important to recognize the personal achievement of longtime Reds star Joey Votto, who reached the milestone of playing in his 2,000th career game, all with the Reds.
Entering play on Friday, Votto is a lifetime .297 hitter with 345 homers and 1,114 RBI. He's bordering on a Hall of Fame career as he is a six-time All-Star, a Gold Glove winner and a former MVP.
Votto has received MVP votes in nine different seasons of his career, has led the league in walks five times, on-base percentage seven times and OPS twice.
He just recently returned from an injury and is struggling this season, hitting .185 through 27 at-bats (entering Friday).
Votto is 0-2 in this game.
By playing in his 2,000th career game, all with the Reds, he joins this list of players who have played 2,000 games for the franchise:
1) Pete Rose, 2,722
2) Dave Concepcion, 2,488
3) Barry Larkin, 2,180
4) Johnny Bench, 2,158
5) Bid McPhee, 2,138
6) Joey Votto, 2,000
Certainly a great accomplishment for one of the longtime stars of baseball. The Reds entered play on Friday at 43-38 and tied for first-place in the National League Central with the Milwaukee Brewers.
The Brewers are playing the Pittsburgh Pirates on Friday at 7:05 p.m. ET.
The Reds will play the Padres again on Saturday at 1:40 p.m. ET.
