Cincinnati Reds Phenom Elly De La Cruz is Already Making History on Friday Night
It seems as if every single day, the Cincinnati Reds - or Elly De La Cruz - are making history.
The Reds came into Friday with a franchise-best (since 1961) 11-game win streak and are putting it on the line against the Atlanta Braves.
At the time of this posting, the Braves lead the Reds, 5-4, but De La Cruz has already homered and made his history for the day.
Per ESPN Stats & Info:
Elly De La Cruz is the first player in the World Series Era (since 1903) to record 20 hits, 5 stolen bases and 3 HR in a player’s first 15 career games.
He's 2-2 on the day with the homer and a double and is now hitting .345 since being promoted. One of the top prospects in all of baseball, he has three homers, eight RBI and six stolen bases.
Because he hasn't exhausted his prospect status yet, he's the No. 3 prospect in the sport right now.
The Reds recent hot streak has coincided with his promotion to the big club, but it goes beyond just him. Matt McLain, Spencer Steer, Andrew Abbott, and Brandon Williamson are all contributing, not to mention Hunter Greene, who is currently out with injury.
Entering play on Friday, the Reds are 40-35 and in first place in the National League Central by 1.5 games over the Brewers,
The Braves enter play at 48-26 with the best record in the National League.
The two teams will have two more meetings this weekend as the series wraps up on Sunday.
