Clayton Kershaw Breaks Storied Record in Los Angeles Dodgers History with Win Over Angels
The Los Angeles Dodgers shut out the cross-town Los Angeles Angels on Tuesday night, 2-0, behind another dominant performance from lefty Clayton Kershaw.
The longtime ace went seven innings, allowing no runs on five hits while walking two and striking out five. In the win, he moved to 9-4 with a 2.72 ERA.
The performance also broke a longstanding record in Dodgers team history.
Per Sarah Langs of MLB.com:
most scoreless starts of 7+ IP, Dodgers since 1900:
Clayton Kershaw: 64
Don Sutton: 63
Don Drysdale: 53
It's certainly just another record for Kershaw on his way to Cooperstown. In addition to his nine wins, the 35-year-old has now struck out 103 batters in 89.1 innings.
One of the best pitchers of his generation, he is a career 206-91 with a 2.49 ERA. The leading pillar of the Dodgers rotation for more than a decade, he's in his 16th year in the majors. He debuted in 2008 and put together one of the most impressive resumes of all-time.
He has won an MVP award, three Cy Young awards, five ERA titles, a Gold Glove award and is a nine-time All-Star selection. He also helped the Dodgers win the 2020 World Series during the COVID year.
The Dodgers are now 40-33 on the season while the Angels are 41-34. The Dodgers are 3.5 back in the National League West while the Angels are 5.0 games back in the American League West.
The two teams will meet again on Wednesday at 9:38 p.m. ET. Shohei Ohtani will be on the mound for the Halos.
