Cleveland Guardians' Josh Naylor Makes Incredible Baseball History This Weekend
The Cleveland Guardians won the weekend series against the Los Angeles Angels thanks in large part to a historic weekend from slugger Josh Naylor.
Naylor accomplished something this weekend that no player in baseball history has done since the expansion era (1961).
Per ESPN Stats & Info:
Josh Naylor Friday night: go-ahead HR in 8th inning.
Josh Naylor Saturday night: go-ahead HR in 8th.
Josh Naylor Sunday: go-ahead HR in 8th.
Naylor is the first player in the Expansion Era (since 1961) to hit a go-ahead HR in the 8th inning or later in 3 straight games
The Guardians won the game today by a score of 4-3. It was 1-1 in the bottom of the eighth when Naylor hit his three-run homer to make it 4-1. The Angels scored two runs in top of the ninth to reach the final margin.
Hopefully this weekend represents a turning point for Naylor, who's been off to a very slow start this year. He's hitting just .214 with six homers and 26 RBI through 126 at-bats.
Despite his struggles this year, Naylor has had a productive run in Cleveland. He hit 20 homers a season ago and drove in 79 as the Guardians got to the ALDS and won the American League Central.
With the win, the Guardians are now 19-21 on the season. They are 3.0 games back of the Twins in the lackluster American League Central.
The loss drops the Angels to 21-20. They've lost six of their last 10 and are now in fourth place in the American League West.
