Cleveland Guardians Star Jose Ramirez Puts Himself in More Exclusive Company in Team History
The Cleveland Guardians beat the Kansas City Royals 8-3 on Wednesday as they continue to stay close in the American League Central race.
The win, coupled with a Minnesota Twins loss, has the Guardians at just 2.0 games back in the division.
The victory on Wednesday was spurred by superstar Jose Ramirez, who went 3-for-4 with two home runs and three RBI. The performance also put him in an exclusive club in team history.
Per Sarah Langs of MLB.com:
most multi-HR games, Cleveland history:
Albert Belle: 26
Jim Thome: 26
Hal Trosky: 25
José Ramírez: 22
Manny Ramírez: 22
Thome is a Hall of Famer and Manny Ramirez is one of the best pure hitters of all-time, so to be nearing the top of the list signifies just how good Jose Ramirez is.
The 30-year-old is hitting .292 this season with 16 homers and 60 RBI. He's also stolen 13 bases on the year.
One of the best players of the last decade, he's a .280 hitter for his career with 208 homers and 726 RBI.
He helped the Guardians get to the World Series in 2016, is a five-time All-Star and a four-time Silver Slugger.
Cleveland will open up a new series on Thursday with the division rival Chicago White Sox. First pitch is slated for 8:10 p.m. ET as rookie Tanner Bibee (CLE) goes up against White Sox ace Dylan Cease.
Bibee is 6-2 this season with a 3.04 ERA while Cease is 4-3 with a 4.04 ERA.
The series is a four-game set.
