The Colorado Rockies pitching staff did something that baseball hasn't seen in the last two years this week.

The Colorado Rockies season of futility continued on Wednesday night as they lost in extra-innings to the Tampa Bay Rays by a score of 6-5.

The Rockies led 5-3 heading into the ninth inning but surrendered two in the ninth and one in the tenth in the loss.

This inability to hold leads is nothing new this week for the Rockies, who have done it in three consecutive games.

Per @OptaSTATS on social media:

The Rockies have led heading into the 8th in their last three games and lost all three. The last team to lead heading into the 8th and lose three consecutive games was the Athletics in August 2021.

Now, the last two years isn't massive baseball history, but still, you don't want to be the first team in two years to accomplish something negative.

The Rockies led 4-3 heading into the eighth inning on Tuesday, only to surrender nine runs in the eighth and lose 12-4.

On Sunday, they led 5-3 in the eighth and gave up seven runs to the Chicago White Sox and lost 10-5.

It's been a dreadful year for the Rockies, who are now 48-78 and own the worst record in the National League. They are only team in the NL with a sub-.400 winning percentage, as they currently own a .381.

They'll look to reverse their fortunes on Thursday afternoon when they play the Rays again at Tropicana Field.

First pitch is set for 1:10 p.m. ET as Peter Lambert gets the ball for Colorado. He's 3-4 with a 5.02 ERA.
