Detroit Tigers Lefty Tarik Skubal Dominating at Home in a Way That Hasn't Been Done in Over 100 Years

The Detroit Tigers beat the Tampa Bay Rays on Saturday afternoon as Tarik Skubal continued his history-making domination at Comerica Park.

The Detroit Tigers beat the Tampa Bay Rays on Saturday afternoon by a score of 4-2.

Offensively, the Tigers were fueled by a key double from Jake Rogers and a home run from Akil Baddoo but the real story came on the mound in the form of lefty Tarik Skubal, who dominated.

He went 5.1 innings against the Rays, surrendering just one unearned run on the day. He allowed six hits and struck out six.

For the year, he's 2-1 with a 3.67 ERA, but inside Comerica Park, he's doing something that hasn't been done in more than 100 years.

Per @OptaSTATS on Twitter:

Tarik Skubal of the @tigers is the first MLB pitcher to have 25+ strikeouts and a 0.00 ERA over his first 4 home starts of a season since Dutch Leonard did so for the Red Sox in 1914.

He also flashed elite velocity, hitting 99 mph in the win. The Tigers are 49-61 and mired in another losing season, but it's good to see Skubal's re-assertion into the rotation after battling injury most of the season.

If the team can ever get the pitching combo of him, Casey Mize and Matt Manning healthy at the same time, then they have a chance to turn things around in the American League Central.

Detroit will host the Rays again on Sunday afternoon. First pitch is slated for 1:40 p.m. ET as Rays ace Tyler Glasnow pitches against Manning.

Glasnow is 5-3 this year with a 3.15 ERA while Manning is 3-3 with a 4.53.
