Detroit Tigers' Miguel Cabrera Passes Another Hall of Famer on All-Time Hit List in Baseball History
Congratulations are in order for Detroit Tigers legend Miguel Cabrera, who passed Hall of Famer Dave Winfield on the all-time hit list on Sunday afternoon.
Per ESPN Stats & Info:
Miguel Cabrera earned his 3,111th career hit, breaking a tie with Dave Winfield for 22nd in MLB history. Alex Rodriguez is next on the list with 3,115 hits.
Cabrera went 1-4 on Sunday in a 7-5 loss to the Arizona Diamondbacks. He's been reduced to a part-time player this year for the Tigers and is hitting just .215 with no home runs and seven RBI.
Cabrera is planning to retire after this season and while his numbers now don't look good, he is one of the most accomplished players of the last two decades.
Cabrera made his major league debut at the age of 20 and since then has put together one of the most impressive resumes in baseball history.
He's a World Champion (2003 with the Marlins), a Triple Crown winner, a two-time MVP, a four-time batting champion, a seven-time Silver Slugger and a 12-time All-Star selection.
He's a lifetime .307 hitter who is a member of both the 3,000 hit and 500-home run clubs.
The loss moved the Tigers to 26-37 on the season. They have now dropped nine games in a row and have moved into fourth place in the American League Central.
The win moved Arizona to an impressive 40-25. They are currently three games up on the Los Angeles Dodgers in the National League West and have won eight of their last 10.
