Detroit Tigers Throw Combined No-Hitter on Saturday vs. Toronto Blue Jays
The Detroit Tigers made franchise history on Saturday, throwing a combined no-hitter against the Toronto Blue Jays.
The trio of Matt Manning, Jason Foley and Alex Lange shut down one of the most potent lineups in all of baseball, marking the ninth no-hitter in franchise history.
It was the first Tigers home no-hitter since Justin Verlander threw one in 2007 and marked the 20th combined no-hitter in baseball history.
Manning did the big work on the mound, tossing 6.2 innings while walking three and striking out five. He threw 91 pitches, 57 of which were for strikes.
He got the win, moving to 3-1 on the year and lowering his ERA to 3.72. Manning was supposed to be one of the centerpieces of the Tigers rebuild but unfortunately the pitching core of him, Casey Mize, and Tarik Skubal hasn't been able to stay healthy.
Offensively, the Tigers had five hits in the win. Riley Greene returned from the injured list to go 2-for-2 with two walks and Spencer Torkelson and Kerry Carpenter each had RBIs.
Kevin Gausman was the tough-luck loser for the Jays, going six innings while giving up two runs and striking out seven. He's 7-5 on the season.
The win moved the Tigers to 39-49 on the season. They are 5.0 games back in the American League Central. Toronto fell to 49-41 and into a tie for the third and final wild card spot in the American League.
The two teams will close out the first half of the season on Sunday at 1:40 p.m. ET.
