Cincinnati Reds rookie Elly De La Cruz took the baseball world by storm this past weekend, stealing second base, third base, and home all in the same sequence against the Milwaukee Brewers.

It was the perfect blend of speed, aggression and anticipation for De La Cruz, who has become one of the must-watch guys in baseball over the first half of the season.

Also, De La Cruz's feat accomplished something that we haven't seen in more than 100 years.

Per Opta Stats on Twitter:

If you didn't read that old newspaper clipping, the last time this happened was back in 1915 when the A"s and White Sox were playing a game of chicken. The White Sox, fearing the game would be called because of rain, were attempting to get out to speed up the game so it would be official.

The A's, who were losing, wanted the game to keep going so it would rain and not be official, so they let the runner keep going as a way to extend the inning.

Fascinating stuff, more than 100 years apart.

De La Cruz is hitting .325 since being called up just over a month ago. He's got four home runs, 16 RBI and 16 stolen bases for the Reds over 126 at-bats.

He's a major reason why the Reds have gone from under .500 to first place in the National League Central in the time since his promotion.

Cincinnati is 50-41 and leads the division by 1.0 game over the Milwaukee Brewers.
