Elly De La Cruz of the Cincinnati Reds Joins Hall of Famers in Franchise Record Books
The Cincinnati Reds beat the Los Angeles Dodgers on Sunday by a score of 9-0.
The Reds put this one away early, scoring three runs in the first, one run in the second and three runs in third.
Offensively, they were led by Jake Fraley, who went 3-for-4 with a homer and Joey Votto, who went 2-for-5 with a homer.
In addition, rookie sensation Elly De La Cruz went 4-for-5 with two runs scored and a home run himself, joining some Baseball Hall of Famers in team history in the process.
Per ESPN Stats & Info:
Elly De La Cruz recorded his 3rd game with 4 hits today. He’s the 3rd Reds player since 1900 to record 3 games with 4 hits at the age of 21 or younger.
The others are Hall of Famers Sam Crawford (7) and Frank Robinson (3).
The powerful infielder has brought a huge jolt to the Reds lineup since being called up in early June. He's hitting .277 with seven homers, 20 RBI and he's provided 17 stolen bases.
Ranked the top prospect in baseball for a time this season, De La Cruz features elite athleticism and elite power, and his rise has coincided with the Reds rise into the playoff picture.
After the win, the Reds are 58-49 and in first place in the National League Central by 0.5 games over the Milwaukee Brewers.
The Reds will travel to Chicago on Monday night to take on the red-hot Cubs.
First pitch is set for 8:10 p.m. ET as Andrew Abbott (CIN) pitches against Marcus Stroman (CHC).
