Doubles Machine Freddie Freeman Does Something Not Done in Nearly 100 Years
The Los Angeles Dodgers beat the Boston Red Sox on Sunday afternoon at Fenway Park to take two-of-three from the American League East squad.
LA scored in five of the last six innings in the victory, getting three-hit days from both Mookie Betts and Freddie Freeman.
Though several people have thought that the National League MVP award would go to Braves' star Ronald Acuna Jr., both Freeman and Betts are doing their best to get into the conversation.
Betts is hitting .315 while Freeman is hitting .341 - and making some team history.
Per ESPN Stats & Info:
With his second of the day, Freddie Freeman now has 50 doubles on the season.
He's the second player in Dodgers franchise history to reach the milestone (Johnny Frederick - 52 in 1929).
In addition to his 50 doubles, he's got 23 homers, 86 RBI and 17 stolen bases. He's got an OPS of .998.
The 14-year veteran is a lifetime .302 hitter with 315 home runs and 1127 RBI. He's a seven-time All-Star and a former MVP who helped lead the Braves to the 2021 World Series.
Perhaps he'll do the same for the Dodgers this year... LA is rolling, currently sitting at 80-49. They are just 4.0 games behind the Braves for the best record in the National League and the No. 1 seed in the looming NL playoffs.
The Dodgers will host the Arizona Diamondbacks on Monday night at Dodger Stadium.
First pitch is set for 10:10 p.m. ET as Zac Gallen (ARI) pitches against Bobby Miller.
