The Atlanta Braves lost to the Chicago Cubs 8-6 on Saturday afternoon but they continue to chase baseball history in the power department.

The Braves got home runs in the game from both Ozzie Albies and Matt Olson, which prompted this tweet from MLB.com researcher Sarah Langs:

most HR thru 108 games, MLB history:

2023 Braves: 211

2019 Twins: 210

that 2019 Twins team set the single-season record with 307 HR

Baseball is a different game now than it used to be. The home run has become more popular so we should see challengers for these records every year, but that doesn't mean what the Braves are doing isn't impressive.

They have the most powerful lineup in baseball and that power has led them to having the best record in baseball at 70-38. They also have the biggest divisional lead in baseball at 11.5 games.

That power at the plate, coupled with the power arms of Spencer Strider and Max Fried, have the Braves as the favorite to get to the World Series out of the National League. Atlanta last won the World Series in 2021 when they beat the Houston Astros.

The Braves and Cubs will play again on Sunday afternoon at Wrigley Field. First pitch is set for 2:20 p.m. ET as Braves veteran Charlie Morton opposes Cubs lefty Justin Steele.

Morton is 10-9 on the season with a 3.62 ERA while Steele is 12-3 with a 2.65.

Chicago is 57-54 on the year and has won seven of its last 10 games.
