Houston Astros Continue to Climb Incredible List in Baseball History with Another ALCS Berth
The Houston Astros beat the Minnesota Twins 3-2 on Wednesday night to advance back to the American League Championship Series.
Houston got a big two-run home run in the win from Jose Abreu, which proved to be the difference maker. The 'Stros closed out the series three-games-to-one and continued to climb an incredible list in baseball history.
Per ESPN Stats & Info:
The Astros advance to their 7th straight ALCS. Only the Braves (8 straight from 1991-99) have a longer LCS streak since the round began in 1969.
Most Consecutive LCS Appearances Since 1969
1991-99 Braves 8
2017-23 Astros 7<<
1971-75 Athletics 5
>> Active streak
Houston is seeking its third World Series title in that time, having also won the World Series in 2017 and 2022. In addition, they went to the World Series in 2019 and 2021, losing to the Nationals and Braves.
This was a different year for the Astros than usual. For instance, they didn't even clinch the AL West until the final day of the regular season. They also dealt with several key injuries throughout the season as Michael Brantley missed most of the year with a shoulder problem, Yordan Alvarez missed time with an oblique injury, and Jose Altuve missed time with a hand injury suffered in the World Baseball Classic.
If Houston is going to get back to the World Series, they'll have to go through their division rivals: The Texas Rangers.
Houston won the season-series 9-4 this year and will look to take this series as well.
Game 1 is on Sunday.
