Houston Astros' Jon Singleton Does Something No Player Has Ever Done on Friday Night
The Houston Astros rolled the Los Angeles Angels on Friday night by a score of 11-3.
It was a big win for Houston, who moved to 67-50 on the season. They remain in the second wild card position in the American League.
It was another critical loss for the Angels, who are back under .500 at 58-59. After going all-in at the trade deadline, they've lost eight of their last 10, are now in fourth place in the American League West and are 6.5 games back of the the third and final wild card spot.
The story of the game was Justin Verlander getting a win in his first start in Houston as a member of the Astros again. He went six innings and struck out seven.
But on the offensive side of things, the story was Jon Singleton, who went 3-for-4 with two home runs and five RBI. He also made some unique baseball history with the performance.
Per ESPN Stats & Info:
Singleton hadn't hit an MLB HR in 8 years prior to his 2 tonight.
That's the longest home run drought snapped with a multi-HR game in MLB history.
Before Singleton, no player had even gone 6 years without hitting a home run and then hit multiple in a game.
The 31-year-old was a former top prospect who debuted with the Astros back in 2014 and hit 13 homers. He then didn't appear in a major league game from 2016-2022 before resurfacing this year with the Brewers, and now Astros again.
The Astros and Angels play again on Saturday night at 7:15 p.m. ET.
