Houston Astros Star Closes in on Major Milestone and Gives Fan Memory of a Lifetime on Monday
The Houston Astros fell to the Miami Marlins on Monday night by a score of 5-1 but Jose Altuve delivered in more ways than one.
The 'Stros star went 3-for-4 in the loss, giving him 1,996 hits for his career, just four away from the coveted number of 2,000.
The 33-year-old has been one of the best players in baseball for years, hitting 201 career homers to go along with a .307 lifetime average. He's also stolen 291 bases and has won an American League MVP award. Altuve has also been integral to the Astros winning World Series titles in both 2017 and 2022.
In addition to his performance on the field, Altuve gave a fan his jersey after the game, making a memory that will last a lifetime. You can see the moment and the fan's reaction here.
Yup, that's the good stuff right there. That fan will never forget that moment.
Altuve has battled injury this season so only has 189 at-bats, but he's hitting .323 with nine homers and 28 RBI for the Astros, who are rolling at 68-52. The 'Stros currently hold the No. 2 wild card spot in the American League and trail the Texas Rangers by 3.5 games for the American League West lead.
The Astros will take on Marlins again on Tuesday night. First pitch is set for 6:40 p.m. ET as Cristian Javier (HOU) pitches against veteran Johnny Cueto (MIA).
Javier is 8-2 with a 4.36 ERA while Cueto is 0-3 with a 5.33.
