Impressive Pitching Performance Proves Historic For Toronto Blue Jays on Thursday Night
Needing a victory on Thursday night to help their playoff odds, the Toronto Blue Jays threw a shutout against the New York Yankees, beating their division rivals 6-0.
Jays' right-hander Chris Bassitt got the win, tossing 7.2 brilliant innings. He allowed just five hits and one walk while striking out five.
He's now 16-12 this season with a 3.60 ERA. It's his first year in Toronto after signing there last offseason.
With the win, the Jays are now 88-71 on the year. They currently hold the No. 2 spot in the American League wild card picture and have a magic number of two to clinch a playoff spot.

On the offensive side of things, the Jays got multi-hit efforts from George Springer, Bo Bichette, Cavan Biggio and Alejandro Kirk.
Toronto will look to move closer to a playoff berth on Friday night when they host the Tampa Bay Rays at Rogers Centre. It's the final regular season series of the year.
The Rays will send righty Aaron Civale to the mound while Toronto will send lefty Yusei Kikuchi.
Civale is 7-4 with a 3.43 ERA while Kikuchi is 10-6 with a 3.82.
