The Seattle Mariners suffered an inexcusable loss on Monday to the Los Angeles Angels 8-5.

The loss drops the M's to 79-65 and means they've dropped four straight and seven of their last 10. They've gone from leading the American League West to 0.5 games out of a playoff spot entirely.

Playing against a lineup of mostly Angels' backups and young players, the M's squandered a 3-0 lead, then failed to score with the bases loaded and nobody out in a tie game in the bottom of the ninth. They also ran into multiple outs on the bases.

In the 10th, they surrendered a two-run home run with two outs and two strikes to Brandon Drury to go down 5-3, but then tied it up at 5-5 on a home run by Julio Rodriguez. The Halos got three more runs in the 11th inning and the M's couldn't answer, leading to their latest defeat.

If you're looking a silver lining to the gut punch, Rodriguez joined a very rare club in baseball history - and team history - with the home run, which was his 30th of the year.

Per @MarinersPR

.@JRODshow44 is the 2nd @Mariners player to join the 30/30 club. He joins Alex Rodriguez (42 HR, 46 SB) in 1998.

Julio is the 4th player in @MLB history to join the 30/30 club at age 22-or-younger, joining Rodriguez (1998), Mike Trout-LAA (2012) & Ronald Acuña Jr. (2019).

He's also only the 44th player ever to register a 30/30 season. He went 4-for-5 on Monday and is now hitting .287 with the 30 homers, 97 RBI and 36 steals.

The Mariners will play the Angels again on Tuesday at 9:40 p.m. ET.
