Kansas City Royals' Bobby Witt Jr. Making Baseball History in Year 2
The Kansas City Royals are the second-worst team in all of baseball (ahead of only the Athletics), so you may not have noticed the continued impressive play of Bobby Witt Jr.
Let us step in and tell you that the second-year player is doing things that have never been done before in baseball history.
Dave Holtzman of Royals TV had the information on Twitter:
Bobby Witt Jr. has 10 HR & 16 SB on May 29...
13 AL/NL players ever with 10+ HR & 15+ SB before June
2nd #Royals player (Bo Jackson in 1989)
1st player EVER at 22 years old or younger h/t @Sportradar
It's an incredible combination of skill and production at such a young age. He was drafted out of the Texas high school ranks in 2019 and made his debut in 2022.
Entering Monday, for his career, he's hitting .248 with 29 homers, 105 RBI and 45 stolen bases.
This season, he's hitting .232 with nine homers, 25 RBI and 15 stolen bases.
Again, those numbers were entering Monday. He went 1-4 on Monday as the Royals beat the St. Louis Cardinals, 7-0.
In fact, this isn't the only historic thing that Witt Jr. has accomplished recently, although this one isn't as exciting...
The Royals are now 17-38 and in last place in the American League Central. They will take on the Cardinals again on Tuesday at 7:45 p.m. ET. Zack Greinke will pitch against Miles Mikolas. The Cardinals are now 24-32 after the Monday loss.
