Kansas City Royals Continue Hot Streak and Make Extremely Random Baseball History

We're a fan of niche baseball history here at Fastball and FanNation, and this is certainly that when it comes to the Kansas City Royals latest win.

The Kansas City Royals beat the New York Mets on Thursday by a score of 9-2. Kansas City swept the Mets, has won six games in a row, and sent New York into a post-trade deadline freefall.

They also accomplished some of the most random baseball history you'll ever see in the series. We're a fan of that here at Fastball and FanNation and this one certainly qualifies.

Per @OptaSTATS on Twitter:

The @Royals are the first MLB team in at least the past 100 seasons to sweep a team with one win coming off a walkoff balk and another being a 4+ run shutout.

The Royals Tuesday win came on a walk-off balk from Mets rookie Josh Walker while the Wednesday win was the 4-0 shutout.

It's been a nice stretch here for the Royals, who are in the midst of a terrible overall season. They have the second-worst record in baseball and are in last place in the American League Central at 35-75.

Second-year sensation Bobby Witt Jr. is still something to watch though. He continued his tear on Thursday by going 3-for-4 with two RBI and two runs scored. He's now hitting .269 on the season.

After disposing of the Mets, the Royals will try their luck with another National League East team: The Philadelphia Phillies.

Philly is 59-50 and in the second wild card position in the National League entering play on Friday.

First pitch from Philadelphia is set for 7:05 p.m. ET as Jordan Lyles (KC) pitches against Aaron Nola.
