It's been a really tough year for the Kansas City Royals and for starting pitcher Jordan Lyles.

But even tough years can have great moments, and that's what Saturday was as Lyles got his first win of the season - making some baseball history as well.

Per @OptaSTATS on Twitter:

Today marks the first time in the modern era that an MLB pitcher with an 0-10 or worse record (Jordan Lyles, @Royals) won on the road against a first-place team (Rays).

Lyles went six innings in the Royals 9-4 victory. He allowed four runs on eight hits and struck out two. He's now 1-11 on the season with a 6.68 ERA.

The Royals put out 11 hits in the victory and had big innings in both the third and fourth, when they scored three and four runs, respectively. Drew Waters, Edward Olivares and Freddy Fermin all homered in the win.

With the win, Lyles is now 67-101 in his career. He has a lifetime 5.20 ERA over the course of 13 major league seasons. He's played for the Astros, Rockies, Brewers, Padres, Rockies, Pirates, Rangers, Orioles and Royals.

The win moved the Royals to 22-55 on the season. They are currently the second-worst team in baseball, just barely ahead of the Oakland Athletics.

The Rays dropped to 53-27 in the loss. They are still the best team in baseball and lead the American League East by 5.0 games currently over the Baltimore Orioles (Orioles game is not done as of this posting).

The Rays and Royals will finish the series on Sunday afternoon at 1:40 p.m. ET
