Kansas City Royals Star Bobby Witt Does Something Not Done For Nearly Last 20 Years in Baseball
The Kansas City Royals beat the Seattle Mariners on Monday night a score of 7-6.
It was a wild back and forth game in which the Royals blew a 5-0 lead and trailed 6-5 entering the bottom of the ninth inning, only to win on a walkoff bunt in the ninth.
That ninth inning game-winning rally was started by a single from Royals superstar Bobby Witt Jr. He singled up the middle off of Mariners reliever Matt Brash to finish 4-for-5 for the day. He added three runs scored and a history-making inside the park home run.
He also made more history on the night, per ESPN Stats & Info:
Bobby Witt Jr. already has two infield hits and an inside-the-park home run tonight.
He's the first player to do that in a game since Juan Pierre in 2004.
Speed is an elite gift to have and Witt Jr. certainly has it. He puts pressure on opponents constantly with his ability to leg out hits and steal bases. He's hitting .277 with 22 homers, 72 RBI and 34 steals this year and while the Royals are one of the worst teams in baseball, Witt Jr. is one of the best young players in the league.
Kansas City has the second-worst record in baseball at 39-81 but they have won four of their last 10. They'll take on the Mariners again on Tuesday night.
First pitch is set for 8:10 p.m. ET as Mariners rookie Emerson Hancock pitches against Royals veteran Jordan Lyles.
