In this story:

The Los Angeles Angels beat the Texas Rangers on Thursday night, 5-3, to take three of four from their division rivals.

With the win, the Halos are now just 4.5 games back of the Rangers in the American League West. They are closing in on the Houston Astros for second place, as well, and trail them by just one game.

As they've done many times this season, the Angels won this game behind the bat -- and arm -- of Shohei Ohtani.

The righty earned the win on the mound, going six innings, allowing two earned runs on six hits. He walked one and struck out three and lowered his season ERA to 3.29.

At the plate Ohtani went 1-2 with two walks and a run scored. He also added two RBI via his 22nd homer of the season. He's now hitting .301 after a torrid stretch. He's got 22 homers and 54 RBI to go along with 10 stolen bases.

Just like seemingly every other day he takes the field, Ohtani has put himself in a position to make unbelievable baseball history.

Per Sarah Langs of MLB.com:

Shohei Ohtani is the first player to have a share of the MLB lead in HR hit AND batting average allowed (min 70 IP) at the end of any given day since 1900

READ IT AGAIN !!!!

Opposing batters are hitting just .178 against Ohtani this year and 22 homers are tied with Pete Alonso for the most in baseball.

The Angels (39-32) will take on the league's worst team, the Kansas City Royals, this weekend.
