Los Angeles' Rookie Breaks Franchise Record on Thursday Night
The Los Angeles Angels beat the Cleveland Guardians on Thursday night 3-2 thanks to a walk-off single by Randal Grichuk.
In addition to the win, the Angels got some history out of the performance courtesy of Nolan Schanuel.
The rookie went 1-for-4, extending his on-base streak to 16 games. It's the longest on-base streak to start a career in Angels' team history.
The following note appeared after the Angels game on Tuesday, which signified that he had tied the record. It came from the Associated Press.
Nolan Schanuel went 1 for 4 and tied an Angels record by reaching base in each of his first 15 games played since making his major league debut Aug. 18. Darin Erstad reached base in his first 15 games in 1996.
Again, that note appeared after Wednesday so the streak is now at 16 games.
Schanuel has been one of the few bright spots for the Angels in this dreadful second half of the season that has seen them go from wild card contenders to 11 games under .500.
He was a first-round pick this year out of Florida Atlantic and was just plopped in the big leagues after hardly any time in the minors. He's more than held his own, hitting .283. He has yet to hit a home run yet though.
The Angels are now 65-76 and will take on the Guardians again on Friday night at Angel Stadium.
First pitch is set for 9:38 p.m. ET as Logan Allen (CLE) pitches against Griffin Canning (LAA).
