Los Angeles Angels' Rookie Continues to Make Mark on Baseball Record Books

The Los Angeles Angels have had a terrible second half of the season, but rookie Nolan Schanuel has been a shining late who continues to etch his name into the baseball record books.

The Los Angeles Angels have had a terrible second half of the season, going from playoff contender to surefire fourth-place finish in the American League West.

The Halos are now 14 games under .500 at 69-83 and are playing without Shohei Ohtani and Mike Trout because of injury.

As bad as it's been, Angels' rookie Nolan Schanuel has been a shining light since getting called up. After getting drafted and promoted just this year, Schanuel is hitting .289 while hitting at the top of the Halos order.

He's also got an on-base streak that is re-writing the baseball history books.

Per Sarah Langs of MLB.com on social media:

longest on-base streak to start career since 1900

1984 Alvin Davis: 47 gms

1918 Truck Hannah: 38

1938 Enos Slaughter: 29

1966 George Scott: 26

1961 Dick Howser: 26

2023 Nolan Schanuel: 24*active

2003 Rocco Baldelli: 24

1953 Jim Gilliam: 24

1937 Gibby Brack: 24

It is incredible what Schanuel has done, considering how hard it is to hit in modern baseball. The pitching is so good, the velocity is so good and the spin is so good, it takes time to adjust, but Schanuel seems to be right at home.

He's currently the No. 1 prospect in the organization, per MLB.com, which has lauded his ability to hit:

The left-handed-hitting Schanuel has the chance to be at least an above-average hitter. He’s always had an advanced approach at the plate, drawing close to three times more walks than strikeouts over his college career. He’s grown into more power, going from 11 homers as a freshman to 16 a year ago and 19 in his final season.

The Angels will play the Rays on Thursday at 1:10 p.m. ET.
