The Los Angeles Angels beat the New York Yankees on Wednesday, 7-3, to complete a sweep of the Pinstripes.

In the win, Angels star Shohei Ohtani went 0-for-1 with four walks and two runs scored.

By scoring a run against New York, Ohtani continues to chase down Yankees legend Babe Ruth in baseball history. Ohtani and Ruth are compared frequently because of their ability to both pitch and hit.

Per @OptaSTATS on Twitter:

Shohei Ohtani has now scored at least one run in eight straight games (min. 1 PA), his third such streak of at least eight games this season.

The only player with more eight-game streaks with at least a run scored in the same season in the Modern Era is Babe Ruth (4 in 1921).

The comparisons between Ohtani and Ruth are valid, but the reality is that Ohtani has surpassed Ruth in many ways already.

Ohtani is likely headed for his second MVP award (also 2021) and is hitting .306 with 35 homers and 76 RBI. He's also posted a .397 on-base percentage and a 1.075 OPS.

On the mound, Ohtani is having a very productive year as well, pitching to a 7-5 record with a 3.50 ERA. He's struck out 139 batters in 105.1 innings (18 starts).

After the sweep, the Angels are 49-48 on the season. They are 9.0 games back in the American League West race and 4.5 games back of the final wild card spot.

The Angels are off on Thursday but will start a new series at home with the Pittsburgh Pirates on Friday night. First pitch is 9:38 p.m. ET.
