The Los Angeles Angels lost to the Los Angeles Dodgers on Friday night, 11-4, but that didn't stop Angels star Shohei Ohtani from making history.

Ohtani went 1-for-3 in the loss with a run scored and a walk, but the one hit was his 100th of the season, which put him in a category all by himself in the game's history.

Per ESPN Stats & Info:

Last night, Shohei Ohtani recorded his 100th hit of the season. He now has 3 seasons with 100 hits and 100 pitching strikeouts in his career (2021, 2022 and 2023).

That is the most such seasons by any player in MLB history, passing Adonis Terry (1887 and 1890).

It's just been an incredible year for Ohtani, who is now hitting .297 with 31 homers and 68 RBI. The front runner for the American League MVP award, he's got 11 stolen bases and has posted a 1.031 OPS.

In addition to his work at the plate, Ohtani has been dominant on the mound. He's 7-4 with a 3.32 ERA and has struck out 132 batters in 100.1 innings.

Despite Ohtani's greatness, the Angels have endured a rash of injuries that has threatened their place in the standings. Losers of eight of the last 10, the Angels are now in fourth place in the American League West are 4.5 games back in the wild card race.

All the conversation now will center on if the Halos want to keep Ohtani and make a run at the playoffs or if they want to trade him before he may leave in free agency at the end of the year.

The Angels and Dodgers play on Saturday night at 9:10 p.m. ET.
