Los Angeles Dodgers' Chris Taylor Makes Incredible Baseball History in Win Over Chicago White Sox
Los Angeles Dodgers utility player Chris Taylor hit a grand slam on Thursday night in an extra-inning win over the Chicago White Sox.
A win is great. A grand slam is great. But making history with that grand slam is extra great, and that's exactly what Taylor did.
Per Sarah Langs of MLB.com:
Chris Taylor is the first player with a grand slam for both his first AND 100th career home runs
he’s the 25th with a grand slam for his 100th and 1 of 211 with a grand slam for his 1st
but he’s the only one on BOTH lists!
Not only was the grand slam historic, it was incredibly vital to the game. That tied the game at 4-4 in the sixth inning and allowed the Dodgers a chance to get to extras, where they'd win it 5-4 in the 11th inning.
Taylor is in his tenth year in the major leagues with the Seattle Mariners and the Dodgers. He spent part of three seasons with the Mariners and part of eight with LA, becoming a key piece of the Dodgers dominance in the National League West.
Moving all around the field, he's played at least 118 games in every season since 2017, with the exception of the COVID 2020 season, when he played in 56 of a possible 60.
A lifetime .253 hitter with a .329 on-base percentage, Taylor made the All-Star team in 2021. He's hit 20 homers twice in a season (2017 and 2021). He also helped the Dodgers win the World Series in 2020.
He's hitting .209 this year with 11 homers and 26 RBI.
