Los Angeles Dodgers' Mookie Betts Keeps Doing Things That Nearly No Player Has Ever Done Before
The Los Angeles Dodgers beat the Los Angeles Angels on Saturday night, 10-5.
With the win, the Dodgers moved to 51-38 while the loss dropped the Halos to 45-46. The Dodgers hit five home runs in the victory, including a history-tying leadoff homer from superstar Mookie Betts.
Per ESPN Stats & Info:
Mookie Betts is one of two players in MLB history to hit 10 leadoff home runs before the All-Star Break, joining Bobby Bonds in 1973.
Betts went 1-for-4 on the night with the homer, a walk, an RBI and two runs scored. Off to a sensational start in the first half of the season, he's hitting .276 with 26 homers, 62 RBI and seven stolen bases. He's posted an OPS of .965 and is a major reason why the Dodgers are 13 games over .500.
One of the best players of his generation, Betts is a former MVP (2018), a two-time World Series champion and a seven-time All-Star.
He'll also be participating in the home run derby on Monday night in Seattle during the All-Star week festivities.
For his career, he's a .292 hitter with 239 homers and 711 RBI.
The Dodgers and Angels are both off on Sunday, marking the rare off day for teams on the Sunday before the All-Star break.
The Dodgers are 0.5 games behind the Arizona Diamondbacks in the National League West and are now tied for the top spot in the wild card race.
The Angels are in fourth place in the American League West, 7.5 games behind the Texas Rangers. They've lost nine of their last 10 games and five straight.
