Miami Marlins Lose as Josh Bell Continues to Make Offensive Impact
The Miami Marlins lost to the New York Yankees on Friday night 9-4 but newly-acquired slugger Josh Bell wasn't at fault.
The burly switch-hitter, acquired at the trade deadline from the Cleveland Guardians, went 1-for-4 with a home run.
That home run continued his impressive, albeit short, tenure in Miami and put him on a short list in team history.
Per Sarah Langs of MLB.com:
most HR in 1st 9 games with Marlins:
2004 Hee-Seop Choi: 5
2023 Josh Bell: 4
1998 Derrek Lee: 4
This is the second piece of history involving Bell in the last week. Just a few days ago, he became the first Marlins player to homer from both sides of the plate in the same game when he did so against the Cincinnati Reds.
He's now hitting .241 this season with 15 home runs and 56 RBI.
Lifetime, he's a .260 hitter with 145 home runs. He's in his eighth year in the big leagues with the Pirates, Nationals, Padres, Guardians and Marlins. He's been named an All-Star and has won a Silver Slugger in his career.
The Marlins are now 60-57 on the season and in third place in the National League East. They are battling for their first playoff appearance since 2020 and have lost seven of their last 10.
They are 0.5 games out of the chase for the final wild card spot in the NL.
They'll take on the Yankees again on Saturday afternoon at 4:10 p.m. Sandy Alcantara will get the ball for Miami.
