Miami Marlins' Luis Arraez Joins Extremely Rare Club in Hitting History
Miami Marlins stud Luis Arraez went 5-5 on Monday night in an 11-0 blowout win over the Toronto Blue Jays at loanDepot park.
It's the third five-hit game of the month for Arraez, a month that still has more than a week left in it.
With that five-hit performance, Arraez joined some of the best hitters in baseball history in an elite club.
Per ESPN Stats & Info:
Luis Arraez is the 4th player since 1900 to have three 5-hit games in a single month, joining:
Dave Winfield in June 1984
Ty Cobb in July 1922
George Sisler in August 1921
All three of those players are in the Baseball Hall of Fame, so Arraez is in truly elite company. He also did something not done in nearly 40 years, so that's also also elite.
After the performance, Arraez is back up to a league-best .400 batting average. He had dipped down to .378 last week but has gone on a tear since then..
He's well on his way to a second straight batting title. He won the crown in 2022 with the Twins when he hit .316. His .400 clip is ahead of second-place Ronald Acuna Jr. by a massive 65 points.
He was traded from Minnesota to Miami this offseason in a deal for pitcher Pablo Lopez.
What makes Arraez so unique is that he does it the old-fashioned way. He has just two home runs this season.
Lifetime, he's a .327 hitter with 16 homers and 167 RBI.
The two teams will play again on Tuesday at 6:40 p.m. ET.
