When it comes to success in close games, the Miami Marlins are on pace for some serious baseball history.

After beating the Washington Nationals on Sunday by a score of 4-2, the Marlins are now 24-10 in games decided by one or two runs.

Per @OptaSTATS on Twitter:

Following their 4-2 win over the Nationals today, the @Marlins are now 24-10 (.706) this season in games decided by 1 or 2 runs.

The last MLB team to have such a good record in those games for a full season was Cleveland in 1954 (48-19, .716) on its way to the World Series.

That's certainly a welcome comparison for Marlins fans. The Fish haven't won a World Series since 2003, so any link between them and a title is good news. They also won the World Series in 1997.

The Marlins turnaround in close games is certainly one of the main drivers behind the team's 41-31 record. Miami is 5.0 games back of the Braves in the National League East and currently owns the top spot in the National League wild card picture.

The Marlins last made the playoffs in the COVID 2020 season but went 67-95 and 69-93 in each of the two years following. The Marlins have missed the playoffs in every season since the championship in 2003, with the exception of the 2020 year.

The Marlins will open up a series with the Toronto Blue Jays on Monday at loanDepot park.

First pitch is scheduled for 6:40 p.m. ET.
