Milwaukee Brewers Starter Accomplishes Something No Other Pitcher Has Done For Franchise in Pitch-Tracking Era
The Milwaukee Brewers dominated the Colorado Rockies on Monday night, winning by a score of 12-1.
The Brewers scored multiple runs in three separate innings in the win, including getting five in the fourth and four in the eighth.
In addition to the offensive performance, the Brewers also got a dominant pitching performance from veteran Freddy Peralta.
The righty went 7.0 innings, surrendering just one run on hit. He walked none and struck out 13 in moving to 8-8 on the season.
He also did something that's never been before for the franchise during the pitch-tracking era (since 2008).
Per Sarah Langs of MLB.com:
31 swings & misses for Freddy Peralta tonight
that’s the most by a Brewers pitcher in a game in the pitch-tracking era (2008)
Whether you are analytically inclined or not, the bottom line is this: If you have missed that many bats in the course of a game, you've done something right. Peralta threw 94 pitches for the night, meaning that nearly 1/3 of his pitchers were swung and missed at.
In addition the eight wins, he has a 4.28 ERA this year for the Brewers. Lifetime, he is 38-25 with a 3.92.
The Brewers moved to 61-53 with the win and now lead the National League Central by 1.5 games over the Cincinnati Reds and 2.5 over the Chicago Cubs.
The Brewers and Rockies will play again on Tuesday night. First pitch is set for 8:10 p.m. ET as Wade Miley (MIL) pitches against Rockies lefty Kyle Freeland.
