NBA Broadcaster Mike Breen Joins Legendary MLB Broadcasters in Exclusive Broadcasting History
On Monday night in Denver, legendary NBA broadcaster Mike Breen will become the first person to call 100 NBA Finals telecasts.
With that, he will become just the fourth broadcaster in the US to have called 100 or more final-series games, joining Doc Emrick of the NHL and legendary baseball broadcasters Joe Buck and Tom McCarver.
It's quite an accomplishment for Breen, who will have Game 5 of the series between the Nuggets and Heat, but it's also incredible to just how many World Series games that Buck and McCarver have called.
Both were part of the FOX Network for a number of years. FOX still has the rights to the World Series but Joe Davis is the lead voice now that Buck has gone to ESPN in order to call Monday Night Football.
McCarver unfortunately passed away this past February.
He spent parts of 21 years playing in the major leagues himself. He played from 1959-1980 with four different teams: The St. Louis Cardinals, Philadelphia Phillies, Boston Red Sox and Montreal Expos.
He was a lifetime .271 hitter with 97 homers and more than 1,500 career hits.
He was a two-time All-Star selection and a two-time World Series champion.
As Breen calls Game 5 Monday on ABC, he'll get a series where the Nuggets have a 3-1 series lead. Denver is seeking its first NBA Championship in history and is led by multi-time MVP Nikola Jokic, as well as sharp-shooting guard Jamal Murray.
As for Buck, he has expressed interest in calling baseball again. ESPN has rights to Sunday Night Baseball, but there has been no talk of him joining that broadcast to this point.
