New York Mets slugger Pete Alonso moved into a tie for third place on the franchise's all-time home run list on Wednesday afternoon.

Per @StatsCentre on social media:

Going deep for a 2-run blast in the 1st half of his team's doubleheader split with the Marlins today, Pete Alonso has slugged 46 home runs in 2023 to this point. He also has needed just 5 MLB seasons to move into a tie behind only 3 on this list of notable names in @Mets history

It's been a great start to the career of Alonso, who is one of the most feared home run hitters in the league. It's also fair to wonder how many more blasts he'd have had his 2020 season not been truncated because of the Coronavirus pandemic.

Alonso hasn't hit for much average this year, posting just a .222 clip but he does have the 46 homers and 117 RBI as well. He's got an .840 OPS through 553 at-bats for the Mets, who are among the most disappointing teams in the entire league.

Lifetime, Alonso is closing in on another milestone: 500 RBI. He's currently at 497.

The Mets are 72-86 on the season and are just playing out the string at this point.

They'll finish out the series with the Marlins on Thursday night at 7:10 p.m. ET.

Jesus Luzardo (MIA) pitches against David Peterson (NYM). Luzardo is 10-9 with a 3.79 ERA while Peterson is 3-8 with a 5.37.

The Mets will finish out the season with a weekend series against the Phillies.
