New York Mets starting pitcher Max Scherzer is headed for the National Baseball Hall of Fame when his career is over and stats like this tell you why:

Per @CodifyBaseball on Twitter:

Only 4 MLB pitchers in history (Nolan Ryan, Randy Johnson, Roger Clemens, Steve Carlton) have more games with at least 6 strikeouts as Max Scherzer has. 335!

At the time of this posting, the Mets are pounding the Houston Astros, 11-1 as Scherzer and the bats dominated. 'Mad Max' tossed eight innings, allowing one run on four hits with one walk and eight strikeouts.

Presuming he gets the win here, he'll move to 6-2 on the season with a 4.04 ERA. He's struck out 68 batters in 64.2 innings this year.

One of the best pitchers of all-time, he's about to go to 207-104 in his career with a 3.13 ERA. The 38-year-old is an eight-time All-Star, a three-time Cy Young winner and he won the 2019 World Series title with the Washington Nationals.

He signed a two-year, $86.67 million contract before the 2022 season. He'll be a free agent after this season but does own a player option.

Offensively, the Mets were led by Francisco Lindor, who went 2-5 with five RBI. Starling Marte, Tommy Pham, Jeff McNeil, Daniel Vogelbach and Bret Baty all had multi-hit games in addition to Lindor.

The Mets and Astros will play again on Tuesday at 8:10 p.m. ET. It will be a battle of aces as Justin Verlander goes for New York against Framber Valdez.
