New York Yankees' Domingo German on Wrong Side of Team History in Blowout Loss to Boston Red Sox
The New York Yankees were beaten by the rival Boston Red Sox on Friday night by a score of 15-5. The Sox had a 13-1 lead after just four innings en route to a very comfortable win.
We told you on Saturday that Sox slugger Justin Turner made Red Sox-Yankees history in that win, but unfortunately, Yankees pitcher Domingo German did too -- and not in a good way.
He lasted just two innings, allowing seven hits and seven earned runs.
Per ESPN Stats & Info:
Domingo Germán is the 1st pitcher in Yankees history to allow 6 extra base hits in 2 innings or less.
Certainly a rough day at the office for German, who is now 4-4 on the season. He allowed a double and a home run to Turner, a double to Masataka Yoshida, a double to Alex Verdugo, a double to Adam Duvall and a double to Christian Arroyo.
After the loss, German now has an ERA of 4.30 on the season.
He made his major league debut in 2017 and won a career-high 18 games in 2019. He's 30-25 for his career with a 4.36 ERA.
The Yankees are now 39-31 after the loss and are in third place in the American League East. They are 10.5 games behind the Tampa Bay Rays in the division.
The Red Sox are 35-35 and in last place, 14.5 games back.
The two teams are scheduled to play on Saturday at 7:15 p.m. ET, but rain could force postponement until Sunday, when they could play a day-night doubleheader.
