New York Yankees on Wrong Side of Team History as They Hit the Road For Series vs. Detroit Tigers
As the New York Yankees hit the road for a new series against the Detroit Tigers beginning Monday, they do so on the wrong side of franchise history.
Per @OptaSTATS on Twitter:
The New York Yankees have lost each of their last eight series played on the road.
That is the team's longest road series losing streak since dropping 10 straight in the 1908 season as the New York Highlanders.
It's been a dreadful stretch for the Yankees, who entered the season with championship aspirations. Instead, they sit at 62-68 and in last place in the American League East.
As a result of this season's failures, there are questions about the job security of both Brian Cashman (general manager) and Aaron Boone (manager).
The Yankees are also at 11.0 games back of the third and final wild card spot in the AL, rendering them essentially with no chance at even making the playoffs this year.
The Yankees have dealt with injuries up and down the roster this year, losing Aaron Judge, Carlos Rodon, Tommy Kahnle, Josh Donaldson and Giancarlo Stanton at various points throughout the season. Judge was out for nearly two months with a toe injury.
The Yankees and Tigers will play each other on Monday night at 6:40 p.m. ET.
Luis Severino will go for New York while Reese Olson pitches for the home team.
Severino has struggled this season, going 3-8 with a 7.26 ERA. Olson, a rookie, has gone 2-5 with a 5.29 ERA.
Detroit is 59-71.
