New York Yankees Isiah Kiner-Falefa Makes Painful Team History on Thursday
New York Yankees utility player Isiah Kiner-Falefa made some team history that no one wants to make on Thursday.
With the Yankees losing to the Seattle Mariners, 10-0, Kiner-Falefa threw the ninth inning, marking the third time he's pitched this season.
That's where the history comes in:
Per James Smyth of the YES Network:
Isiah Kiner-Falefa pitched on April 13 vs MIN & Friday at BOS,
now tonight IKF is the 1st Yankees position player to pitch 3 times in a season excluding 4 who came up as pitchers then moved
Wilbur Good 1905
Lefty O'Doul 1919, 1920, 1922
Oscar Roettger 1923
Johnny Lindell 1942
Kiner-Falefa was highly effective, tossing a scoreless ninth and he even registered a strikeout of slugger Eugenio Suarez.
Kiner-Falefa now has an ERA of 3.00 for the season in his three appearances. And for good measure? He homered in the bottom of the ninth inning.
At the time of this posting, it's 10-2 Mariners and the only Yankees runs have come off the bat of IKF.
He didn't even start this game, entering as a replacement for Josh Donaldson. He went 1-1 and is now hitting .237.
Kiner-Falefa is in his second season with the Yankees after being traded to New York before the 2022 season. He is hitting .232 with three homers and 15 RBI this season. He's added eight steals.
He spent the first four years of his career with the Texas Rangers and is a lifetime .262 hitter.
The Yankees will start a new series on Friday with the Rangers.
