New York Yankees Put History on the Line in Battle with Chicago Cubs
It's a historic matchup to close out the first half of the season as the Chicago Cubs meet the New York Yankees in the Bronx.
Unfortunately, the Cubs are on the wrong side of history in this battle between two of the oldest franchises in the sport.
Per @OptaSTATS on Twitter:
The @Yankees and @Cubs begin a three-game set against each other in the Bronx. Including the 1932 and 1938 World Series, the Yankees are 12-0 all-time against the Cubs in New York. This is the most home wins without a loss by any team versus any single opponent in MLB history.
That's a streak that the Cubs will look to break in game one of the series when they send former Yankees pitcher Jameson Taillon to the mound.
He's 2-6 this season with a 6.93 ERA after signing a contract this offseason. The Yankees will counter with their own big free agent acquisition from this offseason as Carlos Rodon makes his season debut. He's missed the entire season with forearm and back problems.
Rodon signed a six-year, $162 million deal with the Yankees this offseason after spending 2022 with the San Francisco Giants. He went 14-8 with a 2.88 ERA.
The Cubs enter the matchup at 40-46 and 8.0 games back in the National League Central. They've lost seven of ten games. The Yankees are 48-40 and tied for third place in the American League East. They are also tied for the final spot in the American League wild card race.
First pitch is 7:05 p.m. ET.
