New York Yankees' Top of Order Duo Closing in on Awesome Baseball History
The New York Yankees beat the Minnesota Twins on Wednesday, 9-5, to run their impressive record to 44-19. The Yankees have the best record in the American League and are well-positioned to win the organization's first World Series title since 2009.
In the win, Yankees' leadoff hitter Anthony Volpe went 3-for-5 with two runs scored, and Aaron Judge went 1-for-3 with a triple and five RBI.
The pair, alongside Juan Soto, is helping carry the New York offense. It's also approaching a pretty magical record in basebal history.

2003 Andruw Jones, Rafael Furcal: 34
1988 Mike Greenwell, Wade Boggs: 32
2024 Anthony Volpe, Aaron Judge: 31 *active
2000 Troy Glaus, Darin Erstad: 31

One player having a streak of 31 games is impressive, but to have two? It helps explain why the Yankees are so good. It's just hard for opponents to pitch when there is constant traffic on the bases.
Volpe is hitting .290 this season while Judge is hitting .293 and posting an OPS of 1.090. After a slow start, he's now up to 54 RBI to go along with 21 homers.
The Yankees and Twins will play again on Thursday night with first pitch coming at 7:05 p.m. ET. Pablo Lopez will pitch for Minnesota. He's 5-5 with a 4.84 ERA. Marcus Stroman goes for New York. He is 5-2 with a 2.73.
