The Oakland Athletics sadly continue their march towards being the worst baseball team in history.

The A's lost on Monday to the Pittsburgh Pirates, 5-4, and fell to 12-50 in the process. They are the first team in baseball to 50 losses and are a full seven games worse than the next-worse team (Royals, 18-42).

It's been a dreadful year for the Athletics all around, who started by trading away star catcher Sean Murphy to the Braves this offseason, and now have to deal with the threat of relocation to Las Vegas.

The A's rank at or near the bottom in several statistical categories this season including:

Runs: Tied for last

Hits: Tied for 27th

Strikeouts: 28th

Batting average: Last

ERA: Last

Hits allowed: Last

The A's will take on the Pirates again on Tuesday night at 7:05 p.m. ET. James Kaprielian (0-6, 8.12 ERA) will take on Pirates ace Mitch Keller (7-1, 3.25 ERA). Pittsburgh enters play at 32-27 and 0.5 games out of first in the National League Central.

As for the company the A's are currently keeping in terms of the worst teams in baseball history....

The worst records in baseball history (since 1901) are as follows:

1936: Philadelphia Athletics (36-117)

1935: Boston Braves (38-115)

1962: New York Mets (40-162)

1904: Washington Senators (38-113)

1919: Philadelphia Athletics (36-104)

2003: Detroit Tigers: (43-119)

1952: Pittsburgh Pirates (42-112)

1909: Washington Senators (42-110)

1942: Philadelphia Phillies (42-109)

Three teams at 43-111

It's going to be a race to the bottom for Oakland....
