The Oakland Athletics were beaten by the Colorado Rockies on Sunday afternoon 2-0.

It continues a horrific season for the Athletics, who are the worst team in baseball at 30-77 and are on track to be one of the worst teams in baseball history.

The A's are off on Monday, so they have no more games in July, officially putting themselves in the pre-August baseball record books, where they join dubious company.

Per @OptaSTATS on Twitter:

The Athletics have a run differential of -255 after getting shutout 2-0 in their last game of July to Colorado.

Only the 1911 Boston Rustlers (-272) had a lower run differential prior to August in the modern era.

It's been that kind of year for the Athletics, who have certainly had to deal with a lot working against them.

Ownership has gutted the franchise over the last several years, taking a playoff roster and selling it off for parts. They've traded away Matt Chapman, Matt Olson, Chris Bassitt, Sean Manaea, and Sean Murphy over the last two offseasons alone.

The team is also trying to move to Las Vegas, putting the A's and their players in a very tough situation.

Oakland has a league-worst 5.81 ERA on the mound and a league-worst .223 average at the plate.

They rank near the bottom or at the bottom in several key categories, making it easy to understand why they are one of the worst teams ever.

The A's will be back at it on Tuesday against the Los Angeles Dodgers. First pitch is 10:10 p.m. ET.
