Oakland Athletics Make History in Win Over Arizona Diamondbacks
The Oakland Athletics made some rare and unique baseball history on Tuesday night against the Arizona Diamondbacks.
The Athletics won the game, 9-8, in 12 innings, to move to 10-34 on the season but it's how they won that's historic.
From the Twitter account @OptaSTATS:
The @Athletics are the first team in MLB history to have one rookie (Ryan Noda) come up with the bases loaded and deliver a game-tying grand slam and another rookie (Esteury Ruiz) come up with the bases loaded and deliver a walkoff hit in the same game.
Noda hit a grand slam in the bottom of the seventh inning off of Kyle Nelson to tie the game while Ruiz got the game-winning hit off of Scott McGough.
This is a nice moment for the Athletics, who have had a dreadful start to the season and are mired in one of the worst starts in baseball history. Oakland continues to get bad news on the season as it was announced on Tuesday that young flamethrower Mason Miller has a UCL sprain and there's the drama of the team's possible relocation to Las Vegas.
On this week's edition of 'The Payoff Pitch' podcast, we spoke to Adrian Hernandez of the 'Sporting Tribune' in Las Vegas about where things stand after the Athletics reportedly developed a "binding" agreement on a ballpark site on the Vegas strip.
The A's and Diamondbacks finish out the series Wednesday at 3:37 p.m. ET. The Tuesday loss dropped Arizona to 24-19 on the season.
