Oakland Athletics Making History as Losses Mount
The Oakland Athletics are trending towards being one of the worst teams in baseball history. In fact, as of this moment, they are the worst team in baseball history.
ESPN Stats & Info put this out on Twitter on Friday morning:
A's have 42 losses this season, the most by any team prior to June 1 in MLB history.
After being swept by the Seattle Mariners in a four-game series this week, the A's are now 10-42 and have lost eight games in a row.
It just adds to a terrible year for Athletics fans as well, as the team is in constant rumors about relocation to Las Vegas. Those rumors continue to gain traction and a relocation looks more likely by the day.
The A's currently rank 28th in baseball in runs scored, 25th in hits, 28th in doubles, 28th in strikeouts, and 30th in batting average.
On the pitching side, they are last in ERA by a wide margin (6.88, while 29th is just 5.15), last in hits allowed, last in home runs allowed, last in walks allowed, 25th in strikeouts recorded and last in WHIP.
It doesn't figure to get any easier for the Athletics, who take on the Houston Astros and the Atlanta Braves in their next two series.
The Astros are in second place in the American League West while the Braves are in first in the National League East.
It's conceivable the A's could get swept by both and could end up losing at least 14 games in a row.
