Oakland Athletics on Wrong Side of Baseball History as Domingo German of New York Yankees Throws Perfect Game
On Wednesday night, the Oakland Athletics were on the wrong side of baseball history as New York Yankees pitcher Domingo German tossed the 24th perfect game in baseball history.
It was also the first perfect game in baseball since 2012, when Felix Hernandez threw a perfecto against the Tampa Bay Rays.
German was in control from the start of the game. He struck out nine batters in total as the Yankees rolled, 11-0.
In the last inning, Aledmys Diaz grounded out to shortstop, Shea Langeliers flew out to center and Esteury Ruiz grounded out to third.
The performance was a major deviation from the last few outings for German, who had given up 15 earned runs over his last two outings against the Red Sox and Mariners.
Being this footnote in history is another lowlight for the A's this season, who have been embarrassed by having the worst record in the league (21-61) and have had their probable relocation to Las Vegas played out in the public light.
The A's only had one player in the starting lineup hitting above .240 (Ruiz, .260) as their offensive woes continue.
The A's will wrap up the series with the A's on Thursday afternoon. First pitch is scheduled for 3:37 p.m. ET as Clarke Schmidt goes for New York. The A's haven't announced a starter yet at this time.
The A's will host the White Sox for a series beginning on Friday. Chicago is one of the more disappointing teams in baseball and is 35-47 at the time of this posting.
