Nick Castellanos' Home Run Off Spencer Strider Made Some Incredible Statistical History
Nick Castellanos of the Philadelphia Phillies hit two home runs on Thursday night in the Phillies' Game 4 victory over the Atlanta Braves.
The 3-1 win sent the Phillies to the National League Championship Series for the second straight year, and ended the season for the Braves.
While both of Castellanos's home runs were impressive, one specifically has the baseball world buzzing.
Per @PitchingNinja on social media:
How impressive was this home run from Castellanos?
It's the only extra-base hit that Spencer Strider has given up off a 100 mph or faster fastball in his career.
And then, per Matthew Brownstein of the New York Times:
It's also the 2nd hardest-hit HR (112.4 mph) off a 100+ mph pitch in the Statcast era (regular season and postseason included) behind Rafael Devers' 113.7 mph blast off Gerrit Cole on June 27, 2021.
Castellanos has become a playoff legend for the Phillies this year, hitting two home runs in consecutive playoff games (he's the first player in baseball history to do that).
The 31-year-old Castellanos is hitting .391 this offseason with four homers and five RBI. Lifetime, he's a .231 postseason hitter.
This regular season, he hit .272 with 29 homers and 106 RBI. He's in his 11th major league season with the Tigers, Cubs, Reds and Phillies.
The National League Championship Series will begin on Monday night in Philadelphia. The Phillies will welcome in the Arizona Diamondbacks, who have beaten the Brewers and Dodgers in previous rounds.
While pitching matchups haven't been officially set, it's fair to assume it will be Zac Gallen (ARI) and Zack Wheeler (PHI).
