Here's an Insane Stat That Shows Just How Incredible the Season of Ronald Acuna Jr. Is
We know that Atlanta Braves superstar Ronald Acuna Jr. is having an incredible season and we know that he's in the battle for the National League MVP award.
But did you know he's having THIS incredible of a season?
Leave it to Jay Cuda, baseball personality, to contextualize it all:
That's right. Acuna Jr. has hit 37 home runs and stolen 66 bases this season. The entire 1923 Braves (100 years ago) had 32 home runs and 57 steals.
One person has better stats this season than an entire team did 100 years ago. That's absolutely stunning. And it's not just because "the times were different." Babe Ruth played 100 years ago, so did Ty Cobb and Tris Speaker, and plenty of other players who were capable of putting up big stats.
In addition to those huge numbers, Acuna Jr. is also hitting .335 and has posted 97 RBI. He's got an OPS of 1.002 through 594 at-bats at the top of the Braves vaunted lineup.
With Acuna Jr., Matt Olson, Austin Riley, Sean Murphy and others, the Braves have the most dangerous lineup in the sport, the best record in the majors, and are the favorites to win the National League pennant.
Acuna Jr. and his teammates will be back in action on Friday night. They'll take on the Marlins in Miami with the first pitch scheduled for 6:40 p.m. ET. Rookie Bryce Elder goes up against veteran right-hander Johnny Cueto.
Elder is 12-4 with a 3.38 ERA while Cueto is 1-4 with a 6.15.
