The San Diego Padres beat the Cincinnati Reds on Saturday afternoon by a score of 12-5.

With the win, the Padres moved to 38-45 while the loss took the Reds to 44-39.

While the win was much-needed for a disappointing Padres squad, the win also yielded some history for star Juan Soto.

Per ESPN Stats & Info:

Juan Soto hit his 140th career home run in his 700th career game today. Soto is one of three players since 1900 to hit at least 140 HR and walk at least 500 times within their first 700 career games, joining Ted Williams and Frank Thomas.

Any time you can join a pair of Hall of Famers in baseball history, you've done something right. Soto struggled in 2022 after his trade to the Padres, but has gotten right again this year. After homering on Saturday, he's now hitting .274 with 15 homers, 46 RBI and six stolen bases.

Lifetime, the 24-year-old is a .285 hitter with the 140 homers and 420 RBI. He also helped the Nationals win the 2019 World Series, has made two All-Star Games, and has won a home run derby title.

In addition to Soto's performance, Fernando Tatis Jr. drove in three runs, as did Manny Machado.

At the time of this posting, the Padres are in fourth place in the National League West. They trail the first-place Diamondbacks by 11 games and are 8.0 games back in the division.

The two teams will play again on Sunday with first pitch coming at 1:40 p.m. ET.
